Please read the message below from the School -

We would like to share former pupils’ memories on 25 March, and I am hoping an interesting mini-exhibition can be set up at the school. We want to celebrate everything the school has meant to people over the last 200 years, and be able to share the future plans for spending the £24.9 million that the school has received from the Department of Education. We recognise and respect the school traditions and heritage, and do not want to lose sight of that. If anything, I would like to do more for former pupils, to keep them involved with the school – and I see the OBA as being instrumental to that.

I have attached the information for you (CLICK HERE).

Please do send your memories through and I don’t mind how you would prefer to send them.

Best wishes

Amanda Baker

Marketing Director, DYRMSOBA

To all Dukies who attended doyrms from the 40′s to late 50′s.

I am a student conducting an oral history interview on the school and how life for students has changed over the past half century. As a former student myself I know that life at the Duke of York’s is not ordinary and anyone who is willing to share their story with me would be much appreciated. I would like to conduct the interview as soon as possible between Monday the 7th of November and Saturday the 14th of November. I’m based in Worcester and I’m willing to travel so as long as it isn’t more than a couple hours train journey (since I’m a student and money is quite tight) I will be happy to travel to a location of your choice.

So if anyone is interested in sharing their past experiances of Doyrms, feel free to contact me through either my email which is: wooty1993@hotmail.com or by mobile on 07794114039 for more information or to arrange a meeting.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from some of you!

Liam Wootton.

The OBA fixture is now in its 9th year and is the only OBA rugby of the weekend following the ending of the OBA vs School game.

The over 30’s captained by Jim Whittington (Wellington, leaver in 92) will kick off at 1330hrs and the under 30’s captained by Steve Strong (Wolseley 03) at 1445hrs. There will be a minibus transporting players and supporters to and from the game running from outside the Britannia Pub, also running to the Ramada Hotel for those members attending the dinner after the game. The transport to the ground starts at about 12pm and will start leaving the rugby club from about 6-630pm.

Dick Catt (Marlborough 73) the Dover RFC Chairman has also arranged for curry for players and spectators after the match as well as an evening of karaoke and music running late into the night. There will also be a Hog roast (payable on the night) to accompany your ale!

As usual there will be the chance to catch up over a few beers during and after the games. This year along with the usual Post match trophy presentations, Andy Black (Wolseley 97) OBA Rugby Club President is going to say a few words about developments in the future direction of OBA rugby.

This really is an enjoyable and ever growing part of the OBA weekend and everyone is welcome so please pass this on to friends and fellow Old Boys that you may be in touch with and let’s get supporting the teams. For the first time ever both OBA teams lost in 2010, let’s help cheer them onto victory this year.

Ed Parker (pictured) presented the talk at the Warwick Festival of Words. What a story.

There were about 100 people present and the local book seller (Warwick Books) donated all his profits from the book to the charity.

Ed was very very good and went down a storm with the audience, the more mature ladies thought he was very “military” and “such a good speaker” but what we all thought was how great the soldiers who made the journey were. If you saw the BBC programme you will know what I mean. It made you rethink the meaning of disability. These guys are not disabled – they just have some bits missing. They were fantastic.

The DYRMS OBA choose this charity to support this year and we will be holding a raffle at November’s reunion. I am particuraly proud of the Dukie connection. Simon is an old boy, and Ed’s grandad was the school commandant around about the 1950’s.

Simon Daglish and Ed Parker have been tremendous in their drive, enthusiam and hard work in getting this charity off the ground. They have worked tirelessly in the backgound and derserve a good effort from us this November.

Pat Sweeny has generously denoted the use of his home in France for a holiday and this will be the main prize at the draw and I hope Simon will be able to bring along a book to donate as a prize at the raffle. I understand from Ed getting signatures from the soldiers is a bit difficult at the moment as they are all over the place. Hopefully Simon will have it sorted in time.

Looking forward to seeing as many as possible at the reunion.

Regards

Geoff Ralph

The British Military Tournament 2011

Earls Court, London, 2-4 December 2011 – Tickets now on sale

The British Military Tournament is an unforgettable and breathtaking opportunity to marvel at the skills and precision of the British Armed Forces while showing appreciation for our heroic servicemen and women. Set within a dazzling arena production, this unmissable show is the largest display of military theatre anywhere in the world.

Last year’s event brought together all of the best elements from the world-famous Royal Tournament in a new show for the 21st Century. It was witnessed by over 50,000 people and raised substantial funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which gives lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families in their time of need.

This year the British Military Tournament is being presented by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity in association with The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. This spectacular new tri-service show for 2011 is packed with an incredible array of exciting displays and traditional, breathtaking crowd favourites.

The British Military Tournament 2011 focuses on the story of ‘the special relationship’ between the United Kingdom and United States, recreating dramatic episodes in history from the American War of Independence right up to modern day operations in Afghanistan.

The programme includes:

* Over 700 participants, including active combat servicemen and women plus musicians from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and the US Army, and skilled historical American Civil War re-enactors

* Over 100 horses and modern military vehicles

* The only chance to see the legendary Field Gun Run, featuring two crews from Wellington College battling it out in a dramatic, nail-biting contest over the walls and chasms of an unforgiving obstacle course

* The iconic Musical Drive of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery

* Death-defying stunts from the White Helmets (Royal Corp of Signals Motorcycle Display Team)

* Special appearances from the US Army Drill Team and the US Army Band & Chorus
